Bob Crable In The Trenches with Dave Lapham
Wednesday Jun 30, 2021
Wednesday Jun 30, 2021
In this episode of In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics, one of the best football players to come out of Cincinnati, Bob Crable gets "In The Trenches".
Growing up in Deer Park, Bob Crable proved to be an all-around athlete playing multiple sports. While Crable enjoyed a love of baseball, it was his ability on the gridiron that saw him become one of the Mighty Men of Moeller, helping the Crusaders go 36-0 and win three consecutive Ohio high school football championships under legendary head coach Gerry Faust.
After Moeller, Crable would decide between Michigan and Notre Dame to continue his academic and athletic career. While in South Bend, Crable played for Dan Devine and again for Faust while setting Notre Dame records in tackles with 521 total career stops, still a Notre Dame record; most tackles in a season (187 in 1979) and a game (26 vs. Clemson in 1979) while being selected a two-time team captain and two-time consensus first-team All-American in both 1980 and 1981.
After earning a degree from Notre Dame, Crable would hear his name called in the 1982 NFL Draft by the New York Jets with their first-round pick (23rd pick). Crable would spend seven years in the NFL with two knee injuries ending his professional career.
After football, Crable would return to Cincinnati and build Crable Sportswear into a successful business before selling the company to The Midland Company in 1989, staying with the company as president.
Bob Crable saw a life that went full circle as he returned to his high school alma mater, Moeller High School, during the 1992-93 school year as a coach taking over head coaching duties from 2000 to 2007.
Bob Crable talks about his life's journey in this episode of In The Trenches with Dave Lapham.
