Dave Lapham Postgame Thoughts | Cincinnati Bengals Down Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Monday Dec 19, 2022
Monday Dec 19, 2022
It was another big week on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, as the Bengals looked to extend their winning streak to six games taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and "The Goat," Tom Brady, on the road.
After a rough start, Zac Taylor watched his defense step forward, forcing Brady into two interceptions and two fumbles, with In The Trenches favorite D.J. Reader showing why he's a Pro Bowl performer.
Down17-3 to Brady at the half, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow took advantage of the Buccaneers miscues finishing the game going 27 of 39 for 200 yards, four touchdowns with one interception off another tipped pass.
Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase led all Bengals' receivers with seven receptions for 60 yards and one score. In comparison, Tyler Boyd showed his toughness playing with a surgically repaired finger last weekend with five receptions for 35 yards and a score.
The 34-23 victory was won using all phases of the game as special teams also came up big on a Buccaneers punting miscue recovered by Markus Bailey, coffin corner punting by Drue Chrisman, and kickoff coverage keeping Tampa Bay in poor field position.
The win keeps the Bengals sitting at the top of the AFC North standings, one full game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens and third overall in the AFC playoff standings heading into their Week 16 match-up against the New England Patriots on Christmas Eve at 1:00 p.m. est. on the road.
Dave Lapham spoke with Dave Berk following the game and gave his postgame thoughts on the Bengals' big win over the Buccaneers.

Bengals DL DJ Reader | We Feel We Can Play With Anybody
Saturday Dec 17, 2022
Saturday Dec 17, 2022
Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle D.J. Reader is having another significant impact on the success of the Bengals defense. After suffering a knee injury in Week 3 this season, Reader has returned to the field and playing at a Pro Bowl level for the second straight season.
The Greensboro, North Carolina native is a major reason Lou Anarumo has seen his defense excel with consistent pressure up the middle with 19 total tackles (10 solos) and four passes defended.
Reader returned to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss coming back from the injury. The chemistry on the defensive side of the ball and throughout the entire Bengals team and Cordell Volson is one of the most impressive rookies Reader has seen during his career.
If that wasn't enough, Reader explains what makes quarterback Joe Burrow one of the most extraordinary NFL players. Discuss with Lap the success of stopping the running attacks of the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry and the Cleveland Browns, and Nick Chubb, as well as slowing down Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the upcoming match-up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Cincinnati Bengals OL Coach Frank Pollack | Leader of the Glass Eaters
Friday Dec 16, 2022
Friday Dec 16, 2022
After a rough start to the season, the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line had come together, becoming the group offensive line coach Frank Pollack expected when he stressed he was looking for an offensive line full of "Glass Eaters" after the signing of center Ted Karras, right guard Alex Cappa, and right tackle La'el Collins in free agency and the drafting of rookie left guard of Cordell Volson when teamed with left tackle Jonah Williams.
The Bengals are currently on a five-game winning streak, and while several players have stepped forward during the streak to help secure wins, the play of the offensive line can be credited to giving quarterback Joe Burrow more time to scan the field and find open receivers and for opening running lanes for Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon to have big games.
Next for the Bengals is the 6-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming off an unimpressive 35-7 beatdown by the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.
With most of the talk centered on the match-up of Burrow and Tom Brady, In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, understands the game will be decided in the trenches, especially the play of the Bengals offensive line against an excellent Buccaneers defense.

Bengals DC Lou Anarumo | It Takes All Eleven
Wednesday Dec 14, 2022
Wednesday Dec 14, 2022
Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has his defense playing at a super high level again this season. Because of his leadership, many around the NFL, including, In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, feel the Staten Island, New York native is on the verge of becoming a head coach.
During the Bengals current winning streak, Anarumo's defense has laid the groundwork on how to stop the running attack of Derrick Henry and Nick Chubb while also slowing down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs high powered offense.
This weekend brings another new test for Anarumo and the Bengals defense as they head to Tamp Bay to take on "The Goat" Tom Brady and the Buccaneers with a lot on the line.
Anarumo and Lap discuss the success against the Cleveland Browns and taking on one of the all-time greats in Brady as the Bengals continue working towards making another strong showing in the NFL playoffs.

Dave Lapham Postgame Thoughts | Cincinnati Bengals Down Cleveland Browns
Sunday Dec 11, 2022
Sunday Dec 11, 2022
It was a big week on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, as we enjoyed the Bengals' big win over the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday. However, the team that always seemed to have Joe Burrow's and the Bengals number, the Cleveland Browns, was up next in another must-win for the Bengals to keep pace in their chase for the AFC North title and AFC Playoffs.
Burrow and company came away with a big 23-10 win over the hated Browns, but it was, as Burrow said during his postgame press conference, "An Ugly Team Win," to say the least.
Burrow was good enough, and Joe Mixon's return was perfect as the Bengals played without Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Ja'Marr Chase came up big with 10 receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown, and In The Trenches, favorite Trenton Irwin posted another touchdown on a flea-flicker.
But give credit where it's due, as Lou Anarumo and the Bengals defense, especially D.J. Reader, Vonn Bell, Logan Wilson, and rookie Cam Taylor-Britt played significant roles in the win.
Following the game, Lap gave his postgame thoughts on the Bengals win and what is next as the Bengals will hit the road to play "The Goat," Tom Brady, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend.

Ja'Marr Chase provided a spark to the Bengals' offense in his return last week; now, Joe Mixon is expected to be back after missing multiple weeks in the NFL concussion protocol.
A win keeps the Bengals powering up the AFC Playoff standings, and Joe Burrow his first career win over the Browns.

Friday Dec 09, 2022
Friday Dec 09, 2022
One of our favorite guests on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, is Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
Coming off another impressive game plan against the Kansas City Chiefs, Anarumo now turns his attention to the Cleveland Browns, the team that, in Week Eight, gave the Bengals their worst loss of the 2022 season, 32-13, and added to the mystic of the Bengals under quarterback Joe Burrow have yet to beat.
Coach Anarumo talks about the win over the Chiefs and how the Bengals' defense will look to stop Browns running back Nick Chubb, wide receivers Amari Cooper and Donovan People-Jones, and quarterback Deshaun Watson who is back for his second start after sitting out over 700 days.
You'll want to catch this episode before the Bengals look to Rule The Jungle on Sunday afternoon.

Friday Dec 09, 2022

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan returns to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics.
After the terrible 32-13 showing against the Cleveland Browns to close out October, Callahan looks at the rematch as the Bengals are playing some of the best football in the National Football League and on a four-game winning streak.
With quarterback Joe Burrow, a gelling offensive line, the return of Ja'Marr Chase, and hopefully Joe Mixon, Callahan and his offense look primed to give Burrow his first win against the Browns and keep the Bengals moving up the AFC playoff standings.
Coach Callahan gives us the latest on this big AFC North match-up and must-win for the Bengals.

We've had NFL analyst Chris Simms on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics several times. Each time we talk with the former quarterback, he gets more excited about Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Now, after the Bengals' impressive 27-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Simms is ecstatic about the Bengals signal caller and has moved him up his board of the top NFL quarterbacks playing today.
Simms and Lap talk all about how amazing Burrow was on Sunday, along with how the Bengals are not a one-pony show with a solid roster on both sides of the ball and players like Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to go with an ever-improving offensive line with new additions Alex Cappa, Ted Karras, La'el Collins, and Cordell Volson and a defense led by coordinator Lou Anarumo who is getting the most out of D.J. Reader, Sam Hubbard and the rest of the Bengals outstanding defense to make them the team on the rise as we near the end of the regular season.

Jim Nantz | Cincinnati - Sit Back Enjoy The Ride
Wednesday Dec 07, 2022
Wednesday Dec 07, 2022
This past weekend, Jim Nantz was on the call for the Cincinnati Bengals exciting Week 13, 27-24 win over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, Nantz jumps In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss his storied career as one of the top sports commentators in the world.
Despite being roommates and teammates on the Houston Cougars golf team with Hall of Fame golfer Fred Couples and fellow PGA Tour member Blaine McCallister, Nantz had bigger dreams of working for CBS Sports.
That dream came true when Nantz joined CBS Sports in 1985, working as a studio host for college football and basketball and an on-course reporter for PGA Tour events before anchoring CBS' coverage of the Masters Tournament starting in 1989.
Soon, Nantz was on the call for the NCAA Final Four men's basketball finals and the network's NFL pre-game program, The NFL Today. By 2004, Nantz was the network's top NFL play-by-play announcer and continues that role today with Tony Romo.
Not only do Nantz and Lap talk about his broadcast journey and past with Couples, but Nantz also digs into what makes Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, head coach Zac Taylor, offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo one of the top combinations in the NFL.

Dave Lapham Postgame Thoughts | Cincinnati Bengals Down Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Dec 05, 2022
Monday Dec 05, 2022
All week on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, we talked about how the battle between the Cincinnati Bengals against the Kansas City Chiefs would be another exciting match-up for the third time during the 2022 calendar year.
The Bengals were ready for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, keeping Mahomes under 300-yards and Kelce to four receptions and 56 yards with no touchdowns to go with a game-changing play by Germaine Pratt, who stripped the ball out of Kelce's arms and recovered it for the Bengals.
While the Bengals defense was playing at a high level, the offensive line continued to grow, giving Joe Burrow time in the pocket and making key throws and running lanes to Samaje Perine to run for over 100 yards.
After the game, Lap took time to jump In The Trenches to give his postgame thoughts on the Bengals big win and look ahead to Sunday's match-up against the Cleveland Browns.
