Dave Lapham | Keys To Bengals Victory Over The San Francisco 49ers
Friday Oct 27, 2023
Friday Oct 27, 2023
The Cincinnati Bengals enter Week 8 of the NFL season, coming off their bye week and looking to get their fourth win and hold a winning record for the first time this season.
Standing in their way is the once-hot team in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers, who started the season with five straight victories but have suffered back-to-back losses to the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings, along with seeing injuries start to pile up with receiver Deebo Samuel already ruled out, one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL, Trent Williams questionable, and quarterback Brock Purdy limited while going through the NFL concussion protocol.
The Bengals fully understand fighting injuries but look to be the healthiest they've been all season after a week of rest.
Now, the Bengals look to add another win over an NFC West squad in the 49ers and know a win would help show they've turned the corner from Joe Burrow's calf injury that slowed the offense, leaving the defense having to pick up the slack as was shown against the Seattle Seahawks in Week Six.
How much better is Burrow since his last game against the Seahawks?
Will the Bengals be able to open the offense up and show all the changes they planned before Burrow's injury?
Come get In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to get Lap's take on the keys the Bengals need to achieve if they want to return to Cincinnati with a winning record for the first time this season before getting into a stretch of games that could quickly put an end to any thoughts of making another run in the playoffs.

Cincinnati Bengals Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt | ”I’m Just Getting Started”
Thursday Oct 26, 2023
Thursday Oct 26, 2023
Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham. Lap and Cam talk about his stellar year so far and how he thinks he's just getting started.
Cam has had a great start to his sophomore season tailing two huge interceptions in the Bengals past two wins. His interception against the Cardinals was his first career touchdown and it was a pivotal play that led the Bengals to their second win of the season. In the game against the Seahawks, Cam had his biggest assignment of the season stopping the Seahawks high powered offense. He was primarily matched up against one the best receivers in football in DK Metcalf. Cam was up for the task holding DK to just four catches and coming away with one of the biggest plays of the game with his interception on Geno Smith and returning it 25 yards to set up the Bengals for a field goal that proved be to the deciding score of the game. Cam's great season is just getting started and he will have another big test this week as the Bengals go on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers.
We want to thank Cam Taylor-Britt for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan returned to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to talk about where the Bengals offensive attack is at as the Bengals looked to take advantage of their bye week before making a West Coast trip to battle the San Francisco 49ers.
Coach Callahan discusses the overall play of the Bengals offense as quarterback Joe Burrow continues to fight back from the calf injury that has hampered him since the start of training camp, the revamped offensive line, and how defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo's defense has helped the Bengals when the offense was unable to complete their task to close out their game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The coach also talked about the Bengals' next opponent, the 49ers, who play on Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings before the Bengals on Sunday.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Coach Dan Pitcher | Joe Burrow Is Back & Locked In
Friday Oct 20, 2023
Friday Oct 20, 2023
Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss Joe Burrow and the Bengals' impressive Week 6 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
Coach Pitcher out of all the coaches within the Bengals organization has the closest relationship with Joe Burrow. He knows better than anyone how Joe is feeling physically and mentally. Coach Pitcher has nothing but praise for his star QB, knowing that he isn't at 100% he is impressed with the progress he has made week to week. Joe had a fast start to the Bengals last game against the Seahawks scoring two touchdowns on the first two drives but then Joe and the offense slowed down and only scored three points the rest of the game. Luckily the defense stepped up big time closing the game with back-to-back red zone stops in the fourth quarter. Coach Pitcher and Joe know they have a big test coming out of the bye with the 49ers, one of the league's best defenses.
We want to thank Coach Pitcher for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Cincinnati Bengals defense coordinator Lou Anarumo joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengals' impressive Week 6 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Bengal's defense had their most impressive performance of the season so far giving up only 14 points, recording four sacks, and forcing two turnovers. Cam Taylor Britt made one of the biggest plays of the game for the second straight week with an interception of Geno Smith in the third quarter. Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard closed the game out with two huge red zone stops in the fourth quarter and Lou rewarded the whole starting defensive line; Trey Hendrickson, Sam Hubbard, DJ Reader, and BJ Hill with the "game brick" for the win something the defense does after every win. With the offense struggling in the second half Lou's defense needed a stellar performance for the Bengals to pull out the win and that's exactly what they did.
We want to thank Lou for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. Things cooled off after a hot start by the Cincinnati Bengals offense and quarterback Joe Burrow, much like the weather in Southwest Ohio did over the weekend.
However, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and his defense heated up the Paycor Stadium turf, helping the Bengals to a needed 17-13 victory with multiple defensive stands in the red zone.
With the Bengals getting pressure from Sam Hubbard, B.J. Hill, DJ Reader, and Trey Hendrickson and solid secondary play from Cam Taylor-Britt, Mike Hilton, and others, the defense was the MVP, along with the over 66,000 screaming fans, making it hard for the Seattle Seahawks offense to score the winning touchdown and keeping the Bengals with a losing record heading into their bye week.
Now, Zac Taylor and company have dug themselves out of their early hole for a second straight season with their sight set on having another strong stretch run in the AFC North with a goal of making another run in the playoffs.
In this In The Trenches with Dave Lapham Postgame Call with Dave Berk, presented by First Star Logistics, Lap discusses the events of the game, looks ahead at what the bye week can provide the Bengals, and what is facing them when they return to action against the San Francisco 49ers when they return.

Dave Lapham | Keys To Bengals Victory Over Seattle Seahawks
Friday Oct 13, 2023
Friday Oct 13, 2023
After starting the season 0-2, the Cincinnati Bengals have won two of their past three games and are looking to add a third win Sunday afternoon to even their record to 3-3 before hitting the bye week.
The Seahawks watched what the Bengals did last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals as they were on their bye week. They know Ja'Marr Chase had a record-setting day and was named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week for his performance.
They also know Joe Burrow looked more like a 100 percent Joe Burrow than the one struggling with a calf injury.
They also know defensive end Trey Hendrickson is one of two players in the NFL with 6+ sacks each season from 2020-2023.
The Bengals know quarterback Geno Smith continues to play at a high level, and running back Kenneth Walker III and receiver DK Metcalf can make big plays.
Dave Lapham is back with his Keys To Bengals Victory over the Seattle Seahawks as the Bengals look to build upon their performance from last Sunday.
What will the Bengals need to do on both sides of the ball? Lap has the latest on his thoughts on how the Bengals can even their record before looking to make another run in the final eleven weeks of the 2023 season.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver coach Troy Walters joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham, to talk about how his receivers have stepped up to the plate to start the season and Jamarr's recording breaking performance against the Cardinals.
With the absence of Tee Higgins for Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals the Bengals receivers needed to step up in a must-win game and that's exactly what they did. Starting with the obvious standout, Jamarr Chase had a field day on Sunday setting a Bengals reception record with 15 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns. It was awesome to see Joe Burrow and Jamarr reconnect as they did for the past two seasons. Jamarr won AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his dominant performance but another Bengals receiver played a pivotal role in the Bengals Week 5 win, Trenton Irwin. Irwin had eight catches for 60 yards and also had some great punt returns to set up the Bengals offense with great field position. Irwin is used to this role, doing the same last season when Jamarr had to miss time with a hip injury he has proved to be a valuable piece to this Bengals team. With Tee's availability still up in the air for Week 6 against the Seahawks the Bengals wide receivers will need to step up again in what feels like another must-win heading into the bye.
We want to thank Coach Walters for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Cincinnati Bengals defense coordinator Lou Ananrumo joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengals' impressive Week 5 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
It was the Ja'Marr Chase show on offense for the Bengals in Week 5 but Coach Anarumo's defense also had a very impressive game. The Bengals had their first touchdown of the season as Cam Taylor Britt picked off Josh Dobbs right after the Cardinal's defense had a goal-line stop against Joe Burrow and company. It was the biggest play of the game as the Bengals took the lead heading into halftime and then kept the momentum going with their first drive of the second half with a 63-yard bomb to Ja'Marr Chase. Josh Dobbs has been a huge surprise around the league this season but Lou and the defense gave him everything he could handle, forcing him to throw his first two interceptions of the season. The Bengals also had three sacks on Dobbs led by Trey Hendrickson who totaled 2.5 pushing his season total to six which is second in the NFL. Lou and the Bengals defense will have their hands full in Week 6 facing a high-powered offense in the Seattle Seahawks but Lou is up for the challenge in what seems like another must-win to keep the Bengals season alive.
We want to thank Lou for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. After a week of questions surrounding Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals lack of offense against the Tennessee Titans, Burrow found his magic that included a 63-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Marr Chase as the Bengals put it on the Arizona Cardinals 34-20 on the road.
Burrow, who would post a 108.1 passer rating while going 36 of 46 for 317 yards and three touchdowns, would find Chase 15 times for 192 yards and all three scores. The 15 receptions set a new franchise record, breaking the 25-year record of Carl Pickens by two receptions.
Also playing a significant role was receiver Trenton Irwin, with eight receptions for 60 yards and some key punt returns as the Bengals play without rookie Charlie Jones.
But it might have been the play of the defense that really set the tone for the day as Cam Taylor-Britt came up with a massive pick-six after the offense failed to punch in a red zone drive that ended on the one-yard line and pressure from defensive end Trey Hendrickson who posted 2.5 sacks on the day.
Following the game, Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk for his traditional postgame phone call about the Bengals win and its significance to a team facing an uphill battle.

Dave Lapham | Keys To Bengals Victory Over Arizona Cardinals
Friday Oct 06, 2023
Friday Oct 06, 2023
The Cincinnati Bengals head West this weekend to take on the Arizona Cardinals (1-3), with both teams looking for their second win of the season.
Does the news of Joe Burrow being removed from the Bengals Injury Report mean he'll be 100 percent capable of doing everything that makes him a special player?
Or will we see the player who struggled to leave the pocket and complete a full arsenal of throws?
Will Tee Higgins be able to play after missing practice most of this season?
This game begins a three-game stretch against NFL West teams, including the Seattle Seahawks (3-1) and San Francisco 49ers (4-0), games the Bengals will not be favored in now.
The series between the Bengals and Cardinals is tied at six games each, with the Cardinals having won the two most recent meetings.
Instead of the Bengals facing Kyler Murray at quarterback, they'll see a familiar face in Joshua Dobbs, who is playing solid football. Former Steelers running back James Conner is leading the way with 318 rushing yards, and receivers Marquise Brown and Michael Wilson have become the top two targets.
The Bengals' defense will look to rebound as well after a subpar performance against the Tennessee Titans last weekend but will need help from the offense to keep them off the field to stay fresh.
A lot is on the line in this game as the Bengals look to save the direction the season has taken so far, and Lap dives into all the critical Keys needed for the Bengals to earn their second victory of the season.

Father of The Bengals QB Jimmy Burrow joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to talk about Joe Burrow's health and struggles and why this week 5 matchup against the Cardinals is a must-win.
Joe Burrow has been the biggest storyline for the Bengals in the 2023 season and for good reason. Coming into the season Joe was in the best shape of his life and ready for an MVP-caliber season but that all changed when he scrambled out of the pocket in practice and strained his calf in the process. Since then nothing has been the same for the Bengals, limping into the season by starting 0-2 and now having maybe their worst loss in three seasons against the Tennessee Titans. Now facing a must-win game on the road against the 1-3 Arizona Cardinals all of Bengals fandom is wondering will Joe Burrow be able to step up to the plate and bring home a win.
We want to thank Jimmy for coming on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics we always appreciate his time as a recurring guest!
