The ties between Dave Lapham In The Trenches and the voice of the Baltimore Ravens, Gerry Sandusky, run deep in the football world.
Sandusky's father, John Sandusky, played for Cincinnati Bengals founder and former head coach Paul Brown with the Cleveland Browns. In contrast, Dave Lapham was coached by the elder Sandusky in an all-star game when he came out of Syracuse University before being drafted by Paul Brown and the Bengals in the 1974 NFL Draft.
Gerry Sandusky became the radio play-by-play man in 2006 and brings vast knowledge about the 2022 Ravens squad the Bengals will face for a third time this season when the two match up on Sunday night in Wild Card Playoff action in front of a national audience.
Don't miss this exclusive one-on-one with Gerry as he returns to In The Trenches, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss what is happening with Lamar Jackson as the Ravens star quarterback will be out another week. Is Jackson's injury more severe than previously thought? Is Jackson motivated to stay out without a new contract and watch the Ravens sign newly acquired linebacker Roquan Smith to a deal making him the highest-paid off-the-ball linebacker in the NFL?
Sandusky gives his thoughts and looks at what fans should expect from both teams in another major AFC North battle with playoff dreams on the line.

The great Boomer Esiason is back In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to deep dive into Sunday's third match-up between the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens this season.
Boomer hits on several topics as we discuss what happened in the Monday night game that didn't happen between the Buffalo Bills and Bengals, the continued success of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who, along with the other starting quarterbacks playing for AFC playoff teams that remind him of some greats from the past.
What can Bengals fans expect when John Harbaugh brings the Ravens back to Cincinnati after playing last Sunday to close out the regular season?
And despite his love of talking offense, Boomer knows defense is vital and feels the Bengals have shown they have what it takes to make another run in the playoffs, as Lou Anarumo has the Bengals making big plays heading into the playoffs.
You won't want to miss the return of Norman Julius "Boomer" Esiason, as he's always loved hanging out in the trenches.

Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo | Have Faith Our Guys Will Do It
Thursday Jan 12, 2023
Thursday Jan 12, 2023
The Cincinnati Bengals defense continues to make big plays when needed most, and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has faith they'll continue to do it as the Bengals navigate the AFC playoffs starting with a third meeting with AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night.
Anarumo, whose name is talked about in NFL circles as a head coach in waiting, knows he's got a good thing in Cincinnati, as the Bengals organization has provided him with the players needed to run his defensive scheme with great success over the past two seasons.
What challenges do the Ravens bring in this third match-up, as no one knows if Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will be taking his first game snaps since injuring his left knee on Dec. 4, a span of 38 days?
If not Jackson, will it be Tyler Huntley, who is also fighting his own injury issues, or Anthony Brown, the quarterback the Bengals faced last weekend in the final regular season game?
Anarumo knows that the Ravens will be looking to run the ball with J.K Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill while hitting their tight end-heavy receiving group led by Mark Andrews and the fast-rising Isaiah Likely.
You know you'll always get an education on defense when Anarumo jumps In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan jumps back In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss what happened against the Buffalo Bills and updated status of safety Damar Hamlin and how the Bengals moved past what happened to return to the Paycor Stadium turf to beat the Baltimore Ravens and leave no doubt, the Bengals are back-to-back AFC North Champions.
Callahan talks about the Bengals' win over their divisional rival this past Sunday, only to turn around and start his prep work for a third match-up t his season.
Covered during our informative conversation is the loss of right guard Alex Cappa to injury, leaving the Bengals without two of their season-long starters along the revamped offensive line in back-to-back games as La'el Collins went down against the Patriots and Cappa the Ravens.
What is expected of replacements Hakeem Adeniji at right tackle and Max Sharping at right guard? Callahan talks about both players and more as we start working towards a primetime match-up between the Ravens and Bengals on Sunday night, with the winner advancing to the next round of the AFC Playoffs.

Monday Jan 09, 2023
The final week of the NFL regular season is now over, with the Cincinnati Bengals on an eight-game winning streak after beating the Baltimore Ravens 27-16 at Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Bengals finished with the No. 3 seed and will welcome back John Harbaugh and the Ravens for their Wild Card game on Sunday night at 8:15 pm on NBC and the First Star Logistics Bengals Radio Network.
Joe Burrow and the offense were not sharp, only posting 257 total yards of offense as Burrow went 25 of 42 for 215 yards and one touchdown to Ja'Marr Chase. Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine combined for 17 carries for 45 yards and a Mixon touchdown.
The Bengals' defense gave up 386 yards but posted four sacks and two interceptions while also recovering two fumbles, including a Joseph Ossai touchdown after Trey Hendrickson stripped Ravens quarterback Anthony Brown.
One primary concern is the injury to Bengals right guard Alex Cappa who might be out for the rest of the season. Adding Cappa to the loss of La'el Collins a few weeks ago means the Bengals will need another player to step forward and fill the need.
Dave Lapham was on the call for the game and jumped In The Trenches, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss the win, season, and upcoming rematch in the Wild Card round against the Ravens.

Saturday Dec 31, 2022
For Eric Wood, growing up on the West side of Cincinnati had him watching the Bengals and listening to Dave Lapham. So after his successful high school career at Elder High School, Wood headed to the University of Louisville, where he became one of the top centers in the nation.
While there was hope he would become a member of the Bengals, Wood received the call from the Buffalo Bills and started a nine-year NFL career he was forced to abandon because of a career-ending injury discovered during his post-season physical.
After being away from the game for a year, Wood became the Bills' radio color analyst in 2019.
Leading up to Monday Night Football's big match-up between the Bills and Bengals, Wood lined up In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, talking about growing up in Cincinnati, talks with the Bengals pre-draft, his career in Buffalo, and the big match-up between Josh Allen and Joe Burrow that will take center stage Monday night.

Solomon gives his wisdom as the Cincinnati Bengals prepare for the final two weeks of the regular season, starting with the AFC-leading Buffalo Bills in a Monday Night Football marque match-up.

Dave Lapham - The Passing Of Longtime Rival Franco Harris
Thursday Dec 29, 2022
Thursday Dec 29, 2022
Before college football became all about Power Five Conferences, football on the East Coast was some of the most competitive and led by several Hall of Fame coaches.
While it may seem complicated to believe today, there was a time when Syracuse versus Penn State was for bragging rights in the Eastern part of the country.
My college coach, Ben Schwartzwalder, battled Nittany Lion coaches Rip Engle and Joe Paterno during his long coaching career in some epic battles.
Before arriving on the Syracuse campus, Franco Harris was on the campus of Penn State, making plays for Paterno and the Nittany Lions. Because of the old NCAA rules when first-year students didn't play, I'd seen Harris make plays and would compete against his Nittany Lions squad my sophomore year, which was his senior year. This was the start of a longtime rivalry between our teams.
Harris would become a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1972 NFL Draft, and a few years later, Paul Brown and the Cincinnati Bengals drafted me in the third round of the 1974 NFL Draft.
For my ten seasons with the Bengals, we played the Steelers 20 times, with the Bengals earning eight wins against a Steelers squad that would win four Super Bowls, with many Steelers feeling Franco was the glue to their success.
After the 1983 season, the Steelers felt Franco had seen his better days and allowed him to sign with the Seattle Seahawks, where he ended his career in 1984.
I left the Bengals after the 1983 season, where I would play two years in the USFL for the New Jersey Generals before ending my playing career. Shortly after, started a career in broadcasting as a color analyst with the Bengals in 1986.
While Franco Harris was a longtime rival, he was also a great man off the field who touched many by giving his time and energy for the betterment of all.
Harris was more than just part of one of the greatest plays in NFL history, the "Immaculate Reception," and I wanted to take time on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to pay tribute to one of football's all-time greats, Franco Harris.

Wednesday Dec 28, 2022
The Cincinnati Bengals were in a great mood as they prepared for their return flight home after beating Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, 22-18, to finish out a perfect November and December with a seven-game winning streak.
It was Christmas Eve, and all was right as players were ready to get home early to start their holiday celebrations with friends and family.
However, shortly after the team plane left Rhode Island, an engine on their Delta jet failed, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing at JFK in New York City and stopping everyone's celebrations.
Get the inside story on what happened on the Bengals flight back to Cincinnati in a special In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics.
