Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver coach Troy Walters joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham, to discuss how the Bengals wide receivers have been dominating in training camp.
Coach Walters and Dave talk about the dominance of the big three in Jamarr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd. In their third year together they are expected to dominate and they look ready for the regular season. The surprises at camp have been "The Other Guys" like Trent Irwin and Andrei Iosivas, they've been excelling in practice against NFL competition. For Irwin, it isn't the biggest surprise since he played a big part at wide receiver last season when Jamarr Chase was out of the lineup. For Iosivas it's a great start to his career being one of the biggest surprises at camp, Walters says in our interview that Andrei is well ahead of what they thought he would be at during training camp.
We can't wait to see all the young players and depth players play against the Green Bay Packers on Friday in the Bengals first preseason game. Cincinnati Bengals defense backs coach Chuck Burks joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham. Coach Burks has made a big impact on this team in such a short time, just joining the team last season but you can clearly see the effects on the field. Last season starting cornerback Chidobe Awuzie went down with an ACL tear and the DB room was stretched thin but even with their top corner out the room didn't miss a beat in the games and even excelled their game the later the season went on. A key contributor to that success was 2nd year player and rookie last season Cam Taylor Britt. Coach Burks has nothing but high praise for the young DB and truly believes Taylor Britt can become one of the premier corners in the NFL. A big change you will see for the Bengal's corners this season is the departure of Eli Apple. Apple signed with Miami just a few weeks ago but the Bengals reloaded on the position this offseason with drafting DJ Turner in the 2nd round and DJ Ivey in the 7th round of the NFL draft. Coach Burks has high praises for both but Turner is the rookie who is turning heads at training camp making a number of great plays against the best wide receiver group in the NFL. We hope you fans really enjoy this episode of In the Trenches with Dave Lapham and Chuck Burks brought to you by First Star Logistics. Cincinnati Bengals director of personnel Duke Tobin joins us today on this episode of In the Trenches with Dave Lapham. Duke highlights a lot of the offseason storylines and why he thinks the 2023 Bengals are ready for the Super Bowl.
Duke like all of us is extremely excited about this team and can't wait for the season to get started. The Bengals open the regular season against the Clevland Browns on September 10th but the biggest question for Week 1 is the health of QB Joe Burrow. Everything that has been said points to Joe being ready in week one but there is always cause for concern when one of the best players in the NFL has a noncontact injury. Lap tries to push Duke on when the inevitable contract extension will take place but of course, Duke didn't bite. Duke also talks about his thought process behind signing these key free agents and how they will help the Bengals get over the edge in 2023.

Bengals Special Teams Coach Darrin Simmons | Special Teams Will Be Better in 2023
Thursday Aug 03, 2023
Thursday Aug 03, 2023
Cincinnati Bengals special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons returns to In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to preview the new NFL rules and the 2023 Bengals special teams. It seems like every season the NFL applies new rules and this year is no different. Coach Simmons and Lap talk about a few of the new changes and most importantly one that drastically affects the kickoff. The rule is a lot like the college rule where you can now fair catch a kickoff anywhere on the field and it is an automatic touchback. The NFL is making this rule in an attempt to make the kickoff safer but it always takes a lot of strategy and gameplay out of the kickoff. Let's just say Coach Simmons isn't the biggest fan of this new rule change that essentially expels the pooch kick. Lap and Coach Simmons also talk about the upcoming postitons battle that will be determined in training camp most notably the punter battle. Simmons is also excited to see how these rookies will perform and how he can use their athleticism on the field. Bengals OC Brian Callahan | Offense Will Be Ready for Week 1
Monday Jul 31, 2023
Monday Jul 31, 2023
Cincinnati Bengals offense coordinator Brian Callahan returns to In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. Coach Callahan highlights some of the Bengal's offense weapons heading into the 2023 training camp.
Today's episode was recorded the day before Joe Burrow went down with a calf strain at practice so Dave and coach Callahan don't talk about Joe and his injury. Coach has said to the media since the injury that they aren't worried about Joe missing any game time but are disappointed that Joe had another setback during training camp. The Bengals signed QB Reid Sinnett to fill in the third QB spot for camp. It will be interesting to see the timeline on Joe Burrow's injury and if the Bengals go after a more experienced QB if Joe does have to miss some of the regular season.

Bengals DC Lou Anarumo | Bengals Training Camp is Here
Friday Jul 28, 2023
Friday Jul 28, 2023
Cincinnati Bengals defense coordinator Lou Anarumo returns to In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to preview the defense before the start of 2023 training camp.
Lou is very excited to start the 2023 season and he will have some new faces to coach this season. The biggest storyline coming into camp is how the young safeties will have to step up to the starting lineup after the departure of Jessie Bates and Von Bell. Bates and Bell were a huge part of the success of the Bengal's defense the past two seasons and filling their production will be a huge storyline to follow throughout the year. The Bengals also drafted three defense players with their first three picks this year that will make an immediate impact. Myles Murphy was the Bengals first-round selection in 2023 and is getting a lot of buzz about his freakish athletic ability, he wont get the starting nod as a rookie but it will be exciting to see him rush the passer as a rotational player.
We hope you fans enjoy this episode of In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We want to thank Lou for always being an awesome guest on the show he truly is one of the best defense coordinators in the NFL. He has known Zac Taylor for a long time going back to when they were both graduate assistants at Texas A&M.
