Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo | Beat The Steelers No Matter What
Wednesday Nov 22, 2023
Wednesday Nov 22, 2023
Cincinnati Bengals defense coordinator Lou Anarumo joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengals' upcoming matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With Joe Burrow being sidelined for the rest of the season, Lou and his defense will have to up their game, especially in their matchup this week.
This week's game against the Steelers is a must-win if the Bengals have any hope of making the playoffs. With Jake Browning starting for the Bengals, the thought is the game will be a low-scoring affair putting a lot of pressure on the defense
But Lou is ready for the challenge and the defense should be getting a huge boost with Sam Hubbard returning from injury. The Steelers did fire their offensive coordinator today so it will be interesting to see if the Steelers' offense changes with a new play-caller.
We want to thank Lou for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. Dave Lapham Postgame Call | Joe Burrow’s Injury - Bengals Fall To Ravens
Friday Nov 17, 2023
Friday Nov 17, 2023
Things started off strong for the Cincinnati Bengals in their pursuit of winning their sixth game of the season and first in the AFC North when they took a 10-7 lead over the Baltimore Ravens with 5:49 left in the first half.
However, just seconds later, fans, coaches, and teammates quickly saw Burrow clutching his right hand/wrist, and soon, everyone would see the Bengals franchise quarterback grimace in pain and fail to be able to throw a practice toss on the sidelines.
With Burrow running into the locker room, all eyes turned to backup Jake Browning, who would be playing in only the second NFL game of his career.
The Ravens' defense had placed pressure on Burrow and increased their pressure, with Browning now behind center.
At the same time, Lamar Jackson was getting help from his running game, receivers, and official calls against the Bengals, as they turned the score around while posting 405 yards of offense, with Jackson going 16-of-26 for 264 yards in the air with two touchdowns and Gus Edwards adding 62 yards on the ground with two scores. Add in the first 100-yard receiving performance by Odell Beckham Jr. since the 2021 season, and things looked bleak for the Bengals overall.
Browning was serviceable, going 8-of-14 for 68 yards and a touchdown toss to Ja'Marr Chase late in the game, and Joe Mixon would carry 16 times for 69 yards and a 4.3 yards per carry average while also adding 31 yards receiving on five catches, including a touchdown.
But in the end, all eyes and questions surrounded Burrow and how bad the injury will be going forward. While Burrow was not the only Bengals player to go down on the night, he is the straw that stirs the Bengals' offensive drink, and as everyone saw at the start of the season, without a healthy Joe Burrow, the Bengals have yet to show they can be a team to consider one of the top in the NFL.
Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk in a special postgame call following the game to give his opinion on Burrow's injury, the team's performance, and the direction the Bengals will need to go if they want a chance to make the playoffs in 2023.

Solomon Wilcots | Bengals vs Ravens TNF Preview
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
Former Bengal Solomon Wilcots joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the disappointing Week 10 loss to the Houston Texans and to preview the Bengal's upcoming TNF matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
The biggest question this week is can the Bengals bounce back after a tough home loss that drops them out of the AFC playoff picture. It will be their biggest test of the season, going on the road playing one of the best teams in the AFC the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens beat the Bengals in the Jungle 27-24 in Week 2. The biggest advantage the Bengals have for this matchup is Joe Burrow is now 100%, unlike the Week 2 game where Joe was still recovering from his calf injury.
But the Bengals are extremely beat up at other positions with Sam Hubbard, Trey Hendrickson, and Tee Higgins all likely to be out. Young players like Cam Sample, Joesph Ossai, and Myles Murphy will have to step up in this big-time matchup.
We want to thank Solomon for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Dave Lapham In The Trenches | Keys To Bengals Victory Baltimore Ravens Part II
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
Dave Lapham gives his Keys To Bengals Victory against the Baltimore Ravens for the second time this season.
In Week Two, Joe Burrow was hobbled with his calf injury, and the Bengals got off to a slow start before finding the scoreboard in the second quarter, coming up short in the end 27-24.
Now, Burrow is healthy, but the Bengals overall will enter Thursday night's match-up possibly short-handed with injuries on both sides of the ball and still smarting from their Sunday loss to the Houston Texans.
The Ravens enter sitting at the top of the AFC North with a 7-3 record overall but also smarting from a tough loss in the closing seconds to the Cleveland Browns and injury questions of their own.
In the latest In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, Lap gives you the key things the Bengals need to do to get back to their winning ways and add another within the AFC.

Dave Lapham Postgame Call | Bengals Fall To Texans 30-27
Sunday Nov 12, 2023
Sunday Nov 12, 2023
After getting off to a fast start and a 7-0 lead on the game's first drive, the Cincinnati Bengals struggled to put together drives and points as Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud filled the air with several big plays throughout the game.
However, as we've learned about the NFL, games are not decided until the clock reaches zero, and that was the case in this one as Joe Burrow put two interceptions behind him and led the Bengals to a point in the fourth quarter where the Bengals could have taken the lead if not for a dropped pass in the end zone by receiver Tyler Boyd.
While the Bengals did tie the game on an Evan McPherson field goal, they also left time on the clock for Stroud to work some magic in the closing minute of the game until new Texans kicker Matt Ammendola hit the game-winner as the clock ran out, giving Houston a 30-27 and ending the Bengals four-game winning streak and keeping them at the bottom of the AFC North with a short week ahead with a Thursday night match-up against the North leading Baltimore Ravens on the road.
After the game, Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk to discuss the game, where the Bengals stand in the AFC North, and what lies ahead with big games coming up against the Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Jacksonville Jaguars in the next three weeks.

Dave Lapham’s Keys To Bengals Victory Over The Houston Texans
Friday Nov 10, 2023
Friday Nov 10, 2023
The Cincinnati Bengals will look for their fifth straight and sixth wins overall when they host the Houston Texans and rookie quarterback CJ Stroud on Sunday afternoon at Paycor Stadium.
The Texans enter the game on a high note after some last-second heroics from Stroud over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday. However, the Bengals continue to take their play to another level, knocking off the Buffalo Bills in front of a national audience last Sunday night.
Will the Bengals look past the Texans with a significant match-up and quick turnaround game against the Baltimore Ravens scheduled for Thursday night?
Since the win over the Bills, the Bengals have seen their injury reports grow as Tee Higgins and Sam Hubbard missed practice Thursday, and Ja'Marr Chase continues to nurse his back, having returned to practice on Thursday.
The Texans lead the overall series and hold a 4-2 advantage in games played in Cincinnati. The Bengals did win the most recent contest between the two 37-31 in Houston during the 2020 season.
Will the Bengals remain hot and head to Baltimore with a five-game winning streak?
Will critical injuries to key offensive players slow down the success Joe Burrow has seen the past few weeks?
In the latest edition of In The Trenches With Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, Keys To Bengals Victory, Lap provides the key ingredients Zac Taylor's team needs to continue their winning ways.
The winner of the Custom Bengals XBox was @hyyland_r. Congrats on winning one of First Star Logistics' great prizes during their "GIANT" giveaway each week the Bengals play in 2023.

Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach James Casey joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the awesome performance from his group and the Bengals' impressive Week 9 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
The tight end position had its best game of the season in their SNF matchup against the Bills totaling 101 yards between the top three tight ends and scoring two touchdowns.
Irv Smith got the party started in the Jungle scoring the opening touchdown on a beautiful corner route in the back of the endzone. Drew Sample made the best play of his young career when he took a short check-down to the house for a 22-yard touchdown to make the Bengals lead 14 right before halftime.
During the week leading up to the game the NFL trade deadline had come and gone and many fans were upset that the Bengals didn't make any moves to put this team over the edge. Many fans wanted an upgrade at the tight-end position due to the lack of product through seven games, but after the Bills game, it looks like it was a good decision to keep this room intact. If they continue to improve and continue to gain trust with Joe Burrow this room can go from a weakness to a strength.
We want to thank Coach Casey for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Eric Wood | Recapping the Bengals 24 - 18 Victory Over the Buffalo Bills
Wednesday Nov 08, 2023
Wednesday Nov 08, 2023
Cincinnati local, former Buffalo Bill, and current Bills radio announcer Eric Wood joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham. Lap and Eric react to the Bengal's huge SNF victory over the Bills and how these teams look going into the second half of the NFL season.
Joe Burrow continued his dominance with another strong performance out-performing Josh Allen for the second time in his career.
Burrow finished the game with 348 yards going 31/48 with two passing touchdowns while Allen finished the game with 258 yards with two total touchdowns and one interception.
The two biggest factors outside of Joe Burrow's performance were the Bengal's strong defensive performance and the huge production out of the tight end position. Almost doubling their production of the season in just one game.
We want to thank Eric Wood for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk following another big win by the Cincinnati Bengals, who are now 5-3 on the season following their 24-18 victory over the Buffalo Bills in front of 66,965 highly energized fans dressed in orange and black.
Lapham talks about the rise of the Bengals' tight ends after many fans screamed for the Bengals' front office to make a move before the trade deadline. Tanner Hudson, who was moved to the active roster instead of making a trade, pulled in four Joe Burrow passes for 45 yards. At the same time, Drew Sample showed he can do more than a blocker at the line of scrimmage with three receptions for 30 yards, including a touchdown, and first-year tight end Irv Smith Jr. enjoyed his best game as a member of the Bengals with three receptions for 26 yards and a score.
While Joe Mixon may not have had the kind of day many hoped for running the ball, he did have a touchdown on 14 carries for 37 yards while also adding five receptions for 31 yards/
The offensive line flexed their muscles with double teams between center Ted Karras and guards Alex Cappa and Cordell Volson, while left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. showed off his athletic ability by pulling and opening holes.
But while it was easy to talk about Burrow and the offense, the play of Lou Anarumo's defense came up big again, with Cam Taylor-Britt adding another interception and linebacker Germaine Pratt teamed with safety Nick Scott to punch the ball out of the hands of Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid to end a drive early in the fourth quarter.
Lap also discusses where he feels the Bengals are at after their tough start but huge recovery with the Houston Texans coming up Sunday afternoon in Paycor Stadium before a short turnaround to play AFC North rival the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, then followed the following weekend with another rival the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dave Lapham Keys To Bengals Victory Over The Buffalo Bills
Friday Nov 03, 2023
Friday Nov 03, 2023
Week nine of the NFL season is here, and the Cincinnati Bengals enter their eighth game of the season with an extra bounce in their step after knocking off the San Francisco 49ers on the road last Sunday in impressive fashion.
However, the opponent doesn't get easier as the 5-3 Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen come to Paycor Stadium for a Primetime Sunday Night match-up as the Bengals look for their fourth straight win and first win against an AFC opponent this season.
There will be a lot of outside noise leading up to kickoff as many will be watching for Bills safety Damar Hamlin's return to Cincinnati after he suffered cardiac arrest in their Week 17 match-up against the Bengals last season that caused the game to be postponed and later canceled.
Over the years, these two teams have seen some great and memorable games, and Sunday night's game marks the 15th time since 2002 the two teams have played. While the Bills hold a one-game advantage (17-16) over the Bengals in regular-season and postseason play, the Bengals have won five of the last seven match-ups, including a 27-10 win in last season's Divisional Playoff in Buffalo.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor is 1-1 against the Bills and will look for Joe Burrow and the offense to continue their hot start, having scored on their first possession of the game for three consecutive games.
Can Burrow match his performance from last week?
Will the Bengals' defense keep Josh Allen, who has already thrown for 4,283 yards, in check, and Lou Anarumo's defense find a way to slow down Allen's primary target, Stefon Diggs, who already has 1,429 receiving yards from having another big game?
Will the Bengals' offensive line be able to keep Von Miller and Greg Rousseau off Burrow, as the two have combined for 16 sacks this season?
You can find out from Dave Lapham in the latest In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, the key things the Bengals need to earn their fifth victory of the season.
