Dave Lapham In The Trenches | Keys To Cincinnati Bengals Victory Over The Minnesota Vikings

The Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings are both looking to extend their goals of making the playoffs. Both teams will take the turf at Paycor Stadium on Saturday afternoon with 7-6 records and playing backup quarterbacks.
The Bengals come into the game hot, knocking off the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts behind a stronger running game and more open offense, with Jake Browning looking like a possible future NFL starter.
The Vikings will start Nick Mullens, who becomes the fourth starting quarterback this season. Like Browning, Mullens has bounced around the NFL since going undrafted out of Southern Miss in the 2017 NFL Draft.
During his NFL career, Mullens has started 17 out of the 25 games played and thrown for 5,168 yards with 27 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Bengals Ring of Honor quarterback Ken Anderson returned to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss the team's resurgence and return to being a team fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC.
Ken and Dave talk in depth about Browning's play and how the offense is finding a groove that has seen rookie Chase Brown compliment Joe Mixon and Browning hitting multiple receivers.

Father of Bengals QB Jimmy Burrow | Joe’s Successful Surgery and Bengals Future

The Father of Bengals QB Joe Burrow, Jimmy Burrow joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss Joe's successful wrist surgery and his prediction for the rest of the Bengals 2023 season. 
Dave and Jimmy talk about how Joe is feeling after his surgery on his wrist. The injury happened against the Ravens on TNF where the Bengals took the lead on a go-ahead touchdown pass from Joe. 
But as the replays were showing the whole city of Cincinnati held their breath and hoped for the best, seeing Joe in obvious pain and not being able to grip the football. Jake Browning had to finish the game against the Ravens and it resulted in a tough loss for the Bengals but everyone was hoping Joe would be able to play the rest of the year and still turn things around, sadly that was not the case. 
The day after the game head coach Zac Taylor declared that Joe would need season-ending surgery to repair his wrist and everyone in the NFL world assumed that would be the end of the season for the 2023 Bengals.  Especially after an uninspired game against the Pittsburgh Steelers one week later where the Bengals could only put up 10 points, at home against another division rival. 
Then came the Monday Night game for the ages where the Bengals had their most complete game of the season scoring 34 points in their overtime victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jake Browing was unbelievable throwing for over 350 yards and completing over 85% of his passes with two total touchdowns. This win keeps the Bengals season alive and with another big matchup vs the Colts this weekend the Bengals could sneak their way back into the playoff picture.

Dave Lapham Postgame Call | Bengals Back In Playoff Hunt With Impressive Win Over Colts

Following the Cincinnati Bengals 34-14 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk, In The Trenches, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss the impressive win that has the Bengals back in the playoff hunt after the season-ending injury to Joe Burrow.
Following up from Monday's overtime win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, quarterback Jake Browning again showed why the Bengals coaching staff felt confident in his abilities to run the offense and put the Bengals in a position to win.
Hitting on over 75% of his passes, Browning would throw for 275 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a score. He also saw rookie Chase Brown team with Joe Mixon to provide a one-two punch running and catching the ball.
Add in another top performance by Lou Anarumo's defense that sacked Gardner Minshew three times, and the Bengals look strong as they enter the season's final four weeks.
Now 7-6 on the season, Lapham and Berk talk about the game and Saturday's upcoming opponent, the Minnesota Vikings, who won a 3-0 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday as they continue to play without their starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

The Indianapolis Colts will enter Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoon, looking to knock the Cincinnati Bengals off their big overtime road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with backup quarterback Jake Browning.
The Colts are 7-5, and a win keeps them in the hunt for the AFC South, while a Bengals win moves them to 7-6 and keeps their hopes of making the playoffs alive.

It was a performance for the record books as Jake Browning became one of seven quarterbacks ever to complete 85% of his passes and throw for 350 yards. 
The 2023 Bengals season lives on as they pulled off a great upset against the AFC South leaders, the Jacksonville Jaguars winning 34-31 in overtime. Zac Taylor called arguably his best game of the season in an absolute must-win game that keeps the season alive for the Bengals.

Former Bengal Solomon Wilcots joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the disappointing Week 12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and to preview the Bengal's upcoming MNF matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. 
Soly and Lap talk about the Bengals' defensive struggles and how they can improve to keep the Bengals in the playoff hunt.
The Bengals chances are not looking great after dropping another divisional game against the Steelers and making their conference record 1-6 heading into another AFC game against the AFC South-leading Jaguars. 
It is another must-win for the Bengals but with Jake Browing under center it will be tough for the Bengals to pull off a run and make the playoffs. We will see if Zac Taylor and company can pull off a big-time win on Monday night verse one of the best teams in the AFC.

Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo | Bengals Defense Must be Better For Us to Win

Cincinnati Bengals defense coordinator Lou Anarumo joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengals' Week 12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and to preview their MNF matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. 
It was another tough performance for Lou Anarumo's defense letting the Steelers put up over 400 yards of offense and letting Kenny Pickett have his best game of the season. 
As always there were bright spots though, even with the Steelers putting up over 400 yards the Bengals' defense held them to just 16 points. The defense held the Steelers to just one touchdown in four red zone trips and even forced a key turnover in the first quarter. 
But sadly it wasn't enough as the Bengals dropped their third game in a row and fell to 5-6 on the season. With Jake Browning at the helm for the offense the Bengals defense will need to step up if this team wants to remain in the playoff picture for the 2023 season.

Dave Lapham Postgame Call | Bengals Fail To Run The Ball - Browning 1st Career Start

No game is won or lost on one play, but the lack of a successful running attack didn't help Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning in his first career start against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Browning was not great but played solidly in his first NFL start, passing for 227 yards on 19 of 26 passes with one touchdown. But it will be his biggest mistake, an interception on third down from the Steelers' 18 fans, along with Browning will remember most about the final outcome in the 16-10 AFC North loss.
The offense had other issues, as they could not find a way to get Joe Mixon going with the veteran running back, who only got eight carries for 16 yards on the day.
Not all issues were on the offense, as the defense gave up 421 total yards of offense, the first time the Steelers offense posted over 400 yards after a 58-game drought. Kenny Pickett didn't throw a touchdown pass on the day despite going 24 of 33 for 278 yards and hitting tight end Pat Freiermuth for a game-high nine receptions for 120 yards. While the Bengals struggled running the ball, the tandem of Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren had no such issues, with a combined 28 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown by Harris.
The Bengals now stand at 5-6 on the season with only one win in the AFC and none in the AFC North. Next will be the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road for a Monday Night Football match-up.
