Cincinnati Bengals Center Ted Karras joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss his amazing campaign for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award and how the Bengals ended their season with a victory over the Cleveland Browns.
"Thank you, Cincinnati!" is how Ted opened up his interview today and he is extremely grateful for everything that Who Dey nation has done for his charity. Ted is so excited for 2024, as Season 3 of Cincy Hats is on the way and Ted promises it will not disappoint!
Lap and Ted also talk about the offensive line unit that played really well for the majority of the season. A big part of that success was that all five starters started in every game this season. With the departure of Jonah Williams looming it will be important for the Bengals to replace his stellar play and keep that same injury luck that they had this season.
We want to thank Ted for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. After the departure of Brian Callahan to the Tennessee Titans, Zac Taylor and the management of the Cincinnati Bengals wasted little time finding their replacement. They didn't have to look far, as Dan Pitcher was just down the hall heading up the Bengals quarterback's room.
On Thursday, Taylor introduced Pitcher to the media for the first time as the Bengals offensive coordinator. Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk to analyze the promotion of Pitcher to a coordinator role from within the staff and who could fill Pitcher's role as quarterbacks coach along with another member of the staff who could see interest from other teams in the future.
Be sure to check out past interviews from In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, as Taylor, Pitcher, Troy Walters, Lou Anarumo, and Jake Browning have recently appeared.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Jake Browning | 2024 Will Be The Year of The Bengals

Thursday Jan 25, 2024
Cincinnati Bengals QB Jake Browning joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss his amazing run in 2023 and how he believes 2024 will be the year the Bengals take that next step.
Jake played great filling in for Joe Burrow, after Joe's season-ending injury against the Baltimore Ravens. Jake led the Bengals to a 4-3 record and just one game out of the playoffs.
Jake threw for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions in seven starts and played well against every opponent besides the Pittsburgh Steelers. The whole league counted out the Bengals when Joe Burrow suffered his season-ending injury but Jake proved that he could be one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the NFL.
The performance from Jake is great for the Bengals as now they have two capable quarterbacks in the building and with Joe's injury history it's very valuable for the Bengals to have a talented backup. Jake's contract is also great for the Bengals as he is under contract for the next two seasons as 2023 counted as his rookie year.
We want to thank Jake for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. During the interview with Lap, Taylor kept a close eye on his cell phone with the latest update on Callahan as he was in Tennessee for another round of interviews with the Titans.
On Monday night, we learned from several sources that the Tennessee Titans have their new head coach in Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.

Cincinnati Bengals defense coordinator Lou Anarumo joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss and recap the Bengals' disappointing 2023 season.
It was an up-and-down season for the Bengals who dealt with an injured Joe Burrow for the entire season but still managed to end the season with a winning record and were one game away from making the postseason.
One of the biggest surprises of the season was the Bengals defense. After having two very strong seasons in a row it seemed like Coach Anarumo and the players found their stride and that would continue in 2023 but that was not the case.
The defense had some strong performances and played well in some big games but they could never find that consistency that was there in the seasons prior. A big part of that was the loss of both their starting safeties; Jessie Bates and Von Bell. Lou talks about the ups and downs that the defense went through during the season and how he believes the failures of this season will only make the team stronger in 2024.
We want to thank Lou for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receivers Coach Troy Walters | Still A Mission Here
Monday Jan 15, 2024
Monday Jan 15, 2024
When talking about coaches on Zac Taylor's Cincinnati Bengals staff leaving for different jobs, one name that should be talked about more with fans is wide receivers coach Troy Walters. However, NFL teams have noticed Walters's work and have him as a name to watch for offensive coordinator jobs and even as a possible future head coach in the league.
Walters, who played in the NFL for eight seasons and has been with the Bengals since the 2020 season, has been in charge and mentored Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd, helping each show their talents.
With young players, Charlie Jones and Andrei Iosivas in the fold and the possibility of Higgins and Boyd playing for new teams, his role on the staff is even more important.
We welcome back to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters.

NFL analyst Phil Simms returns to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, in Part Two to discuss what the Cincinnati Bengals should expect during the offseason after missing the playoffs.
The two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback knows about going from championship games to out of the playoffs from his time with the New York Giants, how a player feels during the offseason, how they can rebound next season as they'll face changes in their roster, and the importance of getting the right players around Joe Burrow.
Should Zac Taylor push his team hard during the preseason instead of taking it easy to avoid injury so they get off to a faster start?
Did Jake Browning prove to be as good or better than Joe Burrow?
How many quarterbacks should an NFL team keep on their roster?
What change would Phil Simms make to the NFL if he was commissioner for a day?
Phil will also give a few stories on playing for one of the all-time best NFL coaches, Bill Parcells, and more.

Going into "The Battle of Ohio" against AFC North rival, the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinnati Bengals knew the season would end, win or lose.
Despite the end results, several players knew this could be their final time taking the Paycor Stadium turf as a member of the Bengals, and some were looking to add to their career totals or join select groups with a catch or run.
After trading interceptions with the Browns, quarterback Jake Browning settled down and would have another performance that will continue to show the Bengals and the NFL he might be more than just a backup in the coming years, going 18-of-24 for 156 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-14 win moving the Bengals to 9-8 on the season and making the AFC North the first division to have every team end the regular season with a winning record for the first time since 1935.
Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk on the final In The Trenches with Dave Lapham postgame call, presented by First Star Logistics of the season, to discuss the win, the top performances, and more.
